Artist Bio:

Sunny Dublick is an abstract artist based in Charleston, SC. Originally from New Jersey, Sunny took an interest in the arts from a young age- starting with her middle school years when she discovered Sailor Moon and the art of Manga. In her early 20’s she began experimenting with a variety of new art forms including charcoal drawing, acrylic painting, oil painting and watercolor painting.

She advanced her art education with courses in Acrylic & Oil Painting, and Figure Drawing at Philly Art Center and the Fleisher Art Memorial in Philadelphia. According to Sunny, “I once read that everyone should have something they love so much they can lose themselves entirely in it. Art has always been that for me. Painting is a showcase of my passion, and my way of sharing the joy I find in art with the world.” This is her second Gallery exhibit, her first was held at Arts Monongahela in Morgantown, WV.

Artist Thesis:

The work in this exhibit is meant to demonstrate a progression of art through the lens of the creator, and its evolution over time. Initially Sunny began with sketching and drawing; drawn to images that had almost a Mona Lisa like quality and could tell their own story. From there, was an evolution into acrylic painting. Some of the earlier works are experimentations in perspective, form, texture and realism. More recently, Sunny has begun experimenting with emotion within paintings, seeking not to just display an object, person or landscape in a beautiful way, but more so to have a reaction to more abstract concepts. This also marks a deviation in the realistic nature of Sunny’s works to date: newer, abstract methods are a stretch from the learned drawing techniques that require accurate portrayal of a subject at all costs. The artist’s intention is to have viewers lose themselves in the scenes portrayed, to feel as if they are there themselves and feeling the emotion of the scene.
