The Charleston Artist Guild is dedicated to serving the Arts Community of Charleston providing education in all aspects of the art world: workshops for the practicing artist or photographer, lectures for the burgeoning collector, and community outreach to serve the needs of the greater society through art.
The Guild holds monthly meetings that are open to the public at no cost September through May in which accomplished artists and experts make presentations and give demonstrations in many subjects and mediums.
The Charleston Artist Guild Gallery provides space for up to 50 of our exhibiting artists a permanent place to show and sell their work as well as hosting the Guild's Annual Members' Exhibition. Our annual Signature Show and annual Holiday Show are juried exhibitions open to all artists in South Carolina. The Guild's Spring and Fall sidewalk shows are the longest running arts events of their kind in Charleston. We also work closely with the City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs in sponsoring the Piccolo Spoleto Juried Exhibition. The shows display over 100 pieces of artwork each and are seen by thousands of residents and visitors to Charleston.
In addition to encouraging our member artists with workshops, programs of instruction, and opportunities to show their work, we reach out to the community to help less fortunate and younger artists in the Tri-county area. The Guild has six on-going community projects:
The Art of Alzheimer's for elderly artists in nursing homes.
The High School Artistic Merit Awards Competition.
The ASCEND College Scholarship program for high school seniors.
The Extraordinary Arts Competition for special education students.
Art instruction programs for the Charleston Area Senior Citizens Center
Art instruction for the St. Matthews Summer Readiness Program
