Art of Alzheimer’s

Several members from the Guild meet at different Memory Care facilities once a month in the greater Charleston area for an hour to paint with residents. The supplies are provided by a generous grant given to the Charleston Artist Guild. We place the finished paintings in mats to be proudly displayed. This is a very rewarding outreach program.

Extraordinary Arts

The Extraordinary Arts Program showcases the artwork of children with disabilities from the schools in the Charleston and tri-county area. Children with disabilities often are overlooked as potential artists; indeed in some cases don’t even have room for art education in their schedules. This program resulted in a collaboration of the art and special education teachers in our local schools, and we thank them for their efforts.

Charleston Artist Guild Members have led the efforts annually, with the help of the Charleston Public Library. In addition to the colorful ribbons that often accompany art shows, the students that win ribbons receive gift cards and all students receive “goody bags” of art supplies. All participating teachers receive gift cards. All of the expenses are supported by grants.

Pattison’s Academy

Pattison’s Academy (PACE) is located at 2014 Bees Ferry Road, West Ashley. The school serves children of our community who are severely disabled with multiple disabilities, and some who are terminally ill. The school has an amazing group with an amazing mission.

Volunteers of the Guild are busy every summer helping with the Pattison’s Academy Summer Camp. Charleston Artist Guild members and friends conduct two sessions with the children. What enthusiasm and joy we all experience as we watch the sincere fun and enjoyment each child experiences.

High School Senior Art Exhibition

Each year, the Charleston Artist Guild hosts an art exhibition and competition for low country high school seniors who are enrolled in art programs. All lowcountry schools in the tri-county area are invited to participate. The works are judged, and awards presented along with several college scholarships. Scholarship money comes from The New Jersey Community Foundation, the Faye Sullivan Art Scholarship and from the generous donations of Joyce Hall and CAG members. Each scholarship winner will also receive a free one-year membership to the Guild, with all the benefits associated.
