The Charleston Artist Guild is pleased to bring portrait artist Robert Maniscalco to demonstration at the October 10th General meeting. Robert explores the use of light and shadow as a means for creating mood and achieving character expressively in his subjects. Born in Detroit in 1959, he is the son of internationally renowned portrait artist Joseph Maniscalco.
He has been focusing on a new series called The Quench Project in which he is traveling to Haiti and producing paintings expressing the Haitian struggle to obtain fresh water. TQP is in partnership with Watermission International, a local nonprofit bringing water filtration systems to communities in need. Recently Robert has expanded to sketching courtroom scenes which included covering the trial of Dylan Roof.
Robert will also be conducting a portrait workshop sponsored by the Guild on November 4th and 5th. Registration will be available at the meeting. Workshop details available here.
A social will begin at 6:30 pm followed by the official meeting and a presentation from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm. MEMBERS: Please bring a snack to share. Finger-food is preferred. Please be sure to deliver your snacks between 5:45 pm and 6:15 pm to have time for set up.
