In addition to encouraging our member artists with workshops, programs of instruction, and opportunities to show their work, we reach out to the community to help less fortunate and younger artists in the Tri-county area. The Guild has six on-going community projects:
THE ART OF ALZHEIMER'S FOR ELDERLY ARTISTS IN NURSING HOMES.
THE HIGH SCHOOL ARTISTIC MERIT AWARDS COMPETITION.
THE ASCEND COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM FOR HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS.
THE EXTRAORDINARY ARTS COMPETITION FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS.
Our Guild sponsors the Extraordinary Art Exhibit annually for lowcountry area special needs students. We usually have about 100 entries from many schools. It is a highlight of the art program for the children to exhibit their artwork in public and possibly win a prize. Every entrant will receive a gift bag with art supplies. After a reception of donuts and soft drinks, the judge will present cash prizes to the award winners. Steve Jacobs will be playing his key board, and all the families are invited to join the festivities. It is truly a wonderful outreach event for the students & families AND for our members as well!ART INSTRUCTION PROGRAMS FOR THE CHARLESTON AREA SENIOR CITIZEN CENTER.
