The Charleston Artist Guild’s next general meeting will take place on Tuesday, April 11th at the Irene Dixon Auditorium at Roper St. Francis Hospital. Our presenter will be Laurie Meyer. Free parking will be available in the Johnathan Lucas parking garage. All Charleston Artist Guild members and their guests are cordially invited to attend our monthly general meeting.
NOTE: We will be voting on the budget and slate of officers that will cover the upcoming fiscal year of 5/1/2017 through April 30, 2018 at our General Meeting. We need your vote so please attend.
Our guild has the great pleasure of welcoming Laurie Meyer as our April guest speaker. An artist well known to many of our members, Laurie has lived and painted in Charleston for almost 35 years during which her career as an artist and renowned instructor has grown immensely. She showcases her work as an owner of the Meyer Vogl Gallery in downtown Charleston’s gallery district.
She paints with rich color and broad “brushy” strokes and palette knife to express the unique and recognizable softness in her work. Art has also played a role in community involvement for Laurie. She is the past president of the Mt. Pleasant Artists Guild, serving two terms. Laurie also served eight years on the Board of Directors of the Alzheimer’s Association and originated the Art of Alzheimer’s exhibit, now under the auspices of the Charleston Artist Guild. Laurie is past Program Director and past Director of Artistic Growth for the Charleston Artist Guild. She is a member of the Oil Painters of America, Charleston Outdoor Painters Association, the SC Watercolor Association, and the Portrait Society of America.
Painting has been part of Laurie’s life since she was a child, and she still lives for the artistic journey. She loves rich color and textural strokes painted with gesture and spontaneity. She seeks interesting designs with playful shadow structures in her street scenes and rich natural colors in her landscapes.
